Plan the Perfect Wedding at Chateau de Glérolles in Switzerland

There’s something irresistible about a historic castle wedding; pair it with a spectacular lakefront view, rolling vineyards, and breathtaking mountainscapes, and you have a truly special celebration. Château de Glérolles in Switzerland is an incredible venue on Lake Geneva’s shores that offers a unique experience for weddings and events. It also happens to be one of my favorite wedding venues to photograph. I’ve compiled some information for you so it can become one of your favorites, too!

About The Château de Glérolles Venue

Château de Glérolles is a historic castle with a story dating back to the 12th century. The ancient village of Glérolles once sat upon the banks of Lake Geneva, but the entire town was washed away in 563 AD when a massive tidal wave destroyed the entire area. The village was rebuilt under the name Saint-Saphorin, but the beautiful castle on the shores of the Lake retained the name of the town that once was.

The dungeon of Château de Glérolles was constructed in 1150, with the rest of the castle built around it in the early 1300s. In the seven centuries since, the castle has changed hands many times, undergoing significant changes, renovations, and additions. In 1803, the castle became private property. After going from heir to heir, a group of investors purchased it in 2010.

Today, Château de Glérolles houses stunning vineyards, and they make wine onsite with estate grape varieties like Pinot Noir, Cabernet Franc, Syrah, Gewurztraminer, and more.

Details of the Grounds

Château de Glérolles is an incredible castle venue that brings together stunning waterfront views and rolling hills of vineyards. Lake Geneva sparkles brightly on one side, stretching into a horizon of mountain peaks. On the other side, 5 hectares (over 12 acres) of lovingly tended vineyards slope towards the sky. Your wedding will embrace views of the lake and the vineyards - not to mention the incredible castle at the heart of it all.

Say “I do” on the banks of Lake Geneva, with the backdrop of the mountains and lake setting the scene. Romantic willow trees hang their boughs overhead for a dreamy, fairy-tale aesthetic. Beautiful sky, incredible water, and the historic castle all come together for a magical venue unlike any other in Switzerland.

The venue has a gorgeous covered terrace that offers incredible panoramic lake views. It’s an excellent place for a leisurely cocktail hour for up to 100 people standing, or you can host an outdoor dinner for up to 60 people.

Inside the castle, The Knight’s Room is a comfortable, modern space ideal for a reception. Modern lighting and a signature textured ceiling add style and sophistication, and windows overlooking the outdoor views bring in some of the natural spectacle of the outdoors. The Knight’s Room can accommodate up to 60 guests for a seated meal or 80 for a standing cocktail hour.

Photography Opportunities

The spectacular views surrounding Château de Glérolles make some of the best photo backdrops. The stunning lake and signature mountainscapes are perfect for dramatic portraits, group photos with family, or wedding parties. The vineyards are another gorgeous setting for pictures, as are the wine barrels in the onsite winery. The castle’s exterior and gardens are also ideal for timeless photos that capture the charm and character of this signature venue.
