Domaine de Bournel is a stunning venue steeped in history. The venue is nestled in a park made up of 160 hectares of nature, offering dense woods and open fields perfect for your pictures. The estate has been family-owned since it was first constructed in 1496 and has been passed down through generations of the Moustier family. When the newest owners, Gaspard and Ilaria de Moustier, acquired the property, they decided it was time for a bit of a refresh. 

When the COVID-19 pandemic overtook the world in 2020, the couple found themselves with a bit too much freetime. While the rest of us kneaded sourdough or solved puzzles, the pair went to work restoring the 15th century chateau. The castle had been closed for  15 years, and they decided they wanted to return it to its former glory. Today, the chateau marries history with luxury to provide you with a one-of-a-kind wedding venue perfect for writing the next chapter of your love story! 

Details of the Grounds

Domaine de Bournel rests between the villages of Nans and Cubry, offering a quiet getaway in the midst of nature. The castle sits at the front of the property with an expansive courtyard separating it from the 19th century hotel. When you plan your wedding on this property, you will be able to book several of the 16 rooms so you have a picture-perfect spot to get ready with the rest of your wedding party. The rooms stretch across styles so you can find the one that beautifully matches your wedding vibes! 

Most ceremonies at this property take place outside. You can choose from a variety of different backdrops, each one dreamier than the last. If you would like the castle to serve as your backdrop, you can opt for the lawn perched in front of the building’s hedge mazes. 

For those who would like a bit more drama, the twin stone staircases in the Domaine de Bournel courtyard are ideal. With this option, you will make your way down the aisle and walk to your partner who will be waiting for you down the stairs. Your guests will be seated in the grass with hedges and roses on either side. You will recite your vows between in front of the statue before sharing a kiss and making your way back down the aisle with your brand-new spouse! 

Another similarly dramatic spot is the cast-iron gazebo that sits above the grounds. Your guests will be seated in the neatly manicured grass as you recite your vows beneath the vines of the gazebo. You will then walk down the stone steps before joining your guests outside for drinks in the garden. If you are looking for a woodsy backdrop, the venue will work with you to find the perfect spot out in the forest. 

More Than Just A Ceremony Venue

The venue offers a primary room for couples who would prefer to get married indoors. The Chapel inside offers a stunning space that remains true to the original Gothic style. The front of the room offers stained glass windows with paintings of Bible stories on each of the walls. The space becomes downright stunning with just a few candles and lush flowers. 

The gardens are the best spot to plan a cocktail hour! You can work with the hotel to find the best spot to set up a bar so your guests can grab a drink before taking a stroll across the yard. 

Finally, it will be time for your reception. The venue will work with you to find an outdoor place where you can celebrate on the castle grounds. With this option, you can spend hours partying as the sun starts to sink beneath the surrounding fields. If you would prefer something indoors, the chateau is the perfect spot! The stone buttresses will provide you with a unique backdrop as you celebrate with your friends and family. Domaine de Bournel will hold 300 guests outside and 100 guests indoors.

While every inch of Domaine de Bournel is picture-perfect, the gardens tend to be the best spots for wedding pictures. As you explore the grounds, you will find perfectly trimmed hedges, stone fountains, rose gardens, and trellises. You can also use the castle as a wonderfully romantic storybook backdrop. For individual portraits, the interior of the chateau offers dramatic spots for some truly unforgettable pictures!
