Located in the midst of the lush French countryside, Chateau de Champlatreux is a luxurious castle that brings you a slice of the Baroque era. The castle started out as the country home of the Parisian parliamentary Mole family in the 18th century. Mathieu-Francois Mole used some of his wife’s fortune to create a larger scale of Louis XIII’s residence. In an attempt to keep the costs down, he used stones from an old castle to build up the estate. The gardens were also constructed during this era, as well as the iconic entrance.
Over the years, the chateau has seen quite a bit of history play out on its grounds. During the French Revolution, the furniture was removed while the house was used as a military hospital. Following the war, the estate was placed back in the custody of the Mole family, who restored and maintained the house before passing it down for several generations. Today, it stands as a breathtaking testament to centuries of French history.
Details of the Grounds
Since the very beginning, Chateau de Champlatreux has been dedicated to throwing legendary events. They have several spots on the ground designated to give you your perfect day! You will receive access to the chateau as early as 9 AM so you can begin to prepare for your ceremony. Le Salon Bleu tends to be a favorite for brides, offering a picture-perfect space where you can put on all the finishing touches. True to its name, the walls are painted a delicate sky blue with white accents and decadent crown molding. It will serve as the ideal spot for individual portraits once you are done getting ready!
For your ceremony, you will have several options. For those who prefer an outdoor ceremony, the gardens will be the ideal space. You will have open fields accented by small hedges and stone fountains, offering a picture-perfect backdrop as you exchange your vows.
If you would prefer an indoor ceremony, the chateau offers several options. Le Grand Salon tends to be a favorite. This space is positively stunning, with tall sage walls, crown molding, and crystal chandeliers. You can place your altar at the front of the room and have the two arched windows on either side. L’antichambre is another popular spot. While this room carries the same baroque spirit, it’s a bit brighter with cream-colored walls and black and white tiled flooring. Le Salon du Billard feels like the perfect marriage of the two salons. The room is airy and bright with sky-blue accents and crystal chandeliers. Every room at the chateau has a very different “vibe” and has that French look.
The Chateau de Champlatreux offers an indoor Village Church for religious ceremonies. This historic church is located just off the grounds and offers a private space where you can have the ceremony that’s right for you.
Everything After Your Ceremony
For your cocktail hour, your guests can head outside and enjoy a drink beneath the trees before taking a stroll around the Chateau de Champlatreux gardens. The chateau also recommends using The Vestibule for an indoor cocktail hour. This open space features large windows you can leave open so the party can organically flow outside. The towering limestone walls and the black and white tiled floor offer a lovely backdrop for drinks and hors d’oeuvres!
Finally, it will be time for your reception. You will be able to use any of the salons for your reception, or you can place an event tent outside in the gardens. The venue provides you with total freedom and will help you find the right spot for your party. The venue is able to hold up to 400 guests with the ability to add on additional rooms to accommodate your party.
Photography Opportunities
Chateau de Champlatreux is full of gorgeous spots that will be perfect for your pictures! You don’t need to leave the venue for your photos, so you won’t lose time driving around to photography spots like you have at some other venues.
Once you have finished getting ready for your ceremony, you can use Le Salon Bleu for dramatic portraits that show off your full look. For your first look pictures, you can head outside on the grounds, or you can head to Le Grand Escalier and use the stone steps to create these intimate portraits. For group portraits, the gardens are a favorite. Whether you are using the castle as a backdrop or just strolling around the hedges, you’ll have no shortage of spots!
At sunset, I recommend you go out with your wedding photographer for some time in the gorgeous private gardens, which are beautiful as the golden colors appear.
Wedding Details
With Chateau de Champlatreux, the luxurious experience extends into the planning process. When you rent the chateau, they include a two-night stay at their on-site cottage at the rate. With this option, you can have a comfortable space to sleep up to 12 guests. The venue offers a number of catering options and will work with you to find the option that is ideal for your celebration. They also know how to party like the French! You will be able to keep the celebration going until 3:30 AM, and they don’t close the castle until 6 AM. Your guests will have on-site parking for up to 160 cars. One of my favorite touches is their inclusion of a vintage car! You will have your choice of stylish vehicles for your getaway vehicle once it’s time to head off into the night.
