Intimate Lake Como Wedding Venues for Smaller Celebrations

Lots Lake Como wedding content is written for the couple planning a 100-plus guest, multi-day estate celebration. If your guest list is closer to 20, or 40, or 60, that content mostly doesn’t apply to you — the venues are too big, the packages assume a scale you don’t need, and the pricing reflects it. These three venues are built for something smaller: real Lake Como beauty, at a size that actually fits an intimate wedding.

Villa Regina Teodolinda, Laglio

Up to 60 guests – 6 suites, accommodation for up to 25

Lakeside in Laglio, with water access by boat, a two-level garden, and a pool overlooking the lake. Six suites sleep up to 25 guests on-site, meaning your closest people stay under the same roof rather than shuttling in from hotels — genuinely useful for a smaller wedding where the accommodation is part of the celebration, not an afterthought.

Photographer’s tip: the upper terrace, surrounded by trees, holds afternoon light beautifully for a ceremony — save the lower pool garden for the aperitivo and golden-hour portraits after.

Relais Villa Vittoria, Laglio

As few as 21 guests, up to 68-70 for a full reception

A boutique villa hotel directly on the water, licensed for legally binding civil ceremonies through the Municipality of Laglio itself. What makes it stand out for smaller weddings specifically: you don’t need to book the whole property. A terrace ceremony for 21-30 guests is bookable on its own, without full exclusive use — genuinely rare on Lake Como, where most venues require an all-or-nothing booking regardless of guest count.

Photographer’s tip: the main terrace ceremony spot has a permanent covered structure, so even a rain forecast doesn’t force a change of plan — worth knowing if you’re set on an outdoor ceremony but nervous about the weather.

Villa Bonomi, Como

Up to 60 guests exclusive-use – 11 suites, accommodation for 22

Set on the hills between Como and Cernobbio, with a four-acre garden designed by landscape architect Pietro Porcinai and a panoramic terrace looking straight down over the lake. It’s built specifically around the intimate end of the market — most sources describing it recommend it for around 50 guests rather than pushing toward its maximum, which keeps the scale feeling personal rather than stretched.

Photographer’s tip: the elevated position means the light across the lake terrace in late afternoon is some of the best on the lake — worth timing your ceremony for an hour or two before sunset if your schedule allows it.

Villa del Balbianello, Lenno

Ceremonies from 10 to around 60 guests – no on-site accommodation

The most famous villa on the lake, and the splurge of this list. It sits at the tip of a wooded peninsula in Lenno, reached by private boat (or a 25-minute uphill walk), and its three-arched Loggia Durini frames the ceremony against the water like a painting. What surprises many couples is how well it suits a small wedding: ceremonies of up to 50 people can sometimes be held while the villa is still open to the public, which is noticeably cheaper than exclusive use. Rental fees for the smallest ceremonies start at roughly €4,200 plus VAT, and rise steeply from there once you add a reception, so it works best as a ceremony-and-aperitivo, or as an elopement-scale celebration, rather than a full-day event. Keep in mind that the villa has no rooms, so guests stay elsewhere and arrive by boat.

Photographer’s tip: in summer, aim for a ceremony around 5 to 6 pm. The light falls low and golden through the loggia arches, and once the villa has closed to visitors you can walk the terraces without strangers in the frame.

Which One Fits

If accommodation for your closest guests matters most, Villa Regina Teodolinda or Villa Bonomi both sleep a meaningful chunk of a small guest list on-site. If you want the flexibility to book only what you need — a small terrace ceremony without committing to a full property rental — Relais Villa Vittoria is the most adaptable of the three.

If you’re planning a small wedding on Lake Como and want a photographer who works often at this scale, I’d love to help you figure out which of these actually suits your day.
